Bangladesh Driving Licence
UAE Conversion 2026

Bangladeshi residents in the UAE must complete the full UAE driving licence process — Bangladesh is not on the exempt conversion list. Here is what to expect, what documents you need and how much it costs.

🇧🇩 Bangladesh 🇦🇪 UAE 🗓️ Updated 2026

✅ Short Answer — Can Bangladeshis Convert Their Licence in UAE?

Bangladesh is not on the UAE exempt country list for direct licence conversion. Bangladeshi residents must complete all stages of the UAE driving licence process — theory test, yard test and road test — from the beginning. Your existing Bangladesh licence does not reduce any stage or requirement.

Full UAE Licence Process Required

UAE maintains a list of countries whose residents can convert their licence without completing all stages. Bangladesh is not currently on this list. This means regardless of driving experience back home, Bangladeshi residents must go through the full process.

Your experience still matters: While you cannot skip stages, experienced drivers typically need fewer practical lessons. Instructors assess your starting ability and adjust the number of lessons accordingly — saving time and money compared to a complete beginner.
Important UAE rule: The UAE has zero alcohol tolerance for all drivers. Any detectable blood alcohol level is a criminal offence. This is very different from rules in many other countries — the theory test will include questions on this.

UAE Driving Licence Stages for Bangladeshi Residents

1

File Opening at an Approved Driving School

Visit an accredited driving school in your emirate to open your file. The school handles registration with the licensing authority. Bring all required documents — the school will guide you through the full checklist on your first visit.

2

Mandatory Theory Classes

Attend the required number of theory sessions covering UAE traffic law, road signs, speed limits, fines and road safety. Sessions are available in English, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi and other languages. Bengali / Bangla may be available at select schools — confirm when enrolling.

3

RTA Theory Test (Computer-Based)

35 multiple-choice questions, 30 minutes, pass mark 23/35 (65%). The test covers UAE-specific rules — speed limits, black points, fines, alcohol laws, child seat requirements and road signs. Preparation with UAE-specific mock tests is essential as content differs from Bangladesh traffic law.

Key differences from Bangladesh: UAE drives on the right, has specific speed limits per road type (60/80/100/120 km/h), zero alcohol tolerance, mandatory seat belts for all passengers, and strict mobile phone laws with AED 800 fines. Know these before sitting the test.
4

Practical Driving Lessons

Lessons on the training track and public roads under instructor supervision. Experienced drivers may progress faster. The number of lessons required is determined by your instructor's assessment of your driving standard — not by a fixed minimum for experienced drivers.

5

Yard Test

RTA examiner assesses specific manoeuvres on the training track — reverse parking, hill start, emergency stop and garage parking. Practise each until confident and consistent. Common failure points are parking accuracy and hill start technique.

6

Road Test — Final Assessment

20–30 minutes on public roads with an RTA examiner. Tests junction handling, lane discipline, speed management and observation. Pass this and your UAE licence is issued within a few days.

Road test tip: Exaggerate your mirror checks visibly — the examiner needs to see your head moving to each mirror. Insufficient mirror observation is the most common road test failure reason.

Questions from Bangladeshi Residents

Can I drive in UAE on my Bangladesh licence temporarily?
As a UAE resident you cannot drive legally on your Bangladesh licence. Only tourists visiting short-term can use a foreign licence (with an International Driving Permit). Once you are a UAE resident you must hold a UAE driving licence to drive on UAE roads legally.
Is the theory test available in Bengali / Bangla?
The standard UAE theory test is available in Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi and Malayalam. Bengali / Bangla is not currently a standard option at all centres. Most Bangladeshi residents sit the test in English. Practise your mock tests in English to be comfortable with the question format and terminology.
How many driving lessons will I need as an experienced driver?
There is no fixed reduced number for experienced foreign drivers in UAE. Your instructor assesses your driving level at the start and recommends lessons accordingly. Experienced drivers typically need 10 to 20 lessons rather than 30 to 40 for a complete beginner — but this varies by individual and school.
What are the biggest differences between Bangladesh and UAE traffic rules?
Key differences: UAE drives on the right (same as Bangladesh), has strict speed limits enforced by cameras, zero alcohol tolerance (criminal offence for any detectable level), mandatory seat belts for all occupants, strict mobile phone laws (AED 800 fine), and a black points system that suspends licences at 24 points. These all feature in the theory test.
How long does the full process take?
Typically 3 to 6 months for most Bangladeshi residents completing all stages. The timeline depends on lesson frequency, test scheduling at your school and how many attempts each stage requires. Passing all stages first time and attending lessons regularly shortens the process significantly.
